Monitoring of ground disturbance was undertaken as part of a water scheme near the village of Cliffony, Co. Sligo. The scheme extended from the village of Cliffony on the N15 to Derrylehan crossroads. The pipeline route was c. 5.5km long. The trench to facilitate the water pipe was quite narrow, 0.6–0.7m wide, and 1–1.2m deep. The entire route extended along existing public roads. There was no instance where it extended through recorded archaeological monuments. No archaeological remains were uncovered in the course of the groundworks.

In some places the pipeline extended along the road verge, and in others it extended along the road. Where it extended along the road, the upper one-third of the trench was dominated by imported material for road formation. The road material directly overlay compact, brown/beige, sandy gravel or dark brown, peat-like soil. At least half the route extended through boggy terrain. In some areas the peat extended directly to the boulder clay, and in others directly to the base of the trench. Where the pipeline extended along the grass verge along the side of the road, topsoil occurred in lieu of the tarmacadam and hardcore.
