Application was made for a house on the lower slopes of Deerpark Hill. Deerpark wedge tomb, cashel and court tomb are between 180m and 430m to the north of the development site. The east boundary of the development area is 11m west of the boundary of the large boxed-off area that enclosed these and other monuments. The monuments closest to the development area were a cashel, at a distance of 50m, and a wedge tomb and mound, at a distance of 160m.
Monitoring of ground disturbance for the house and associated works took place from 10 to 12 March 2000. The area stripped for the house was 22m by 18m. The top sod was generally about 0.15m deep but in places no more than 0.05m deep. Beneath the sod is a brown soil with fractured limestone from the underlying bedrock. This covers the site to depths of between 0.35m and 0.55m. Underlying that is yellow/brown soil, tending to be daubish in places. The foundation trenches for the walls were excavated down to 0.7m in places and encountered occasional large limestone boulders. The access driveway was stripped. It measured almost 75m in length and merges with the existing entrance. Close to the road the bedrock was just under the sod.
There were no archaeological discoveries.
