A second phase of monitoring was carried out at this site on 3 and 4 July 2000. The monitored area comprised eight house sites on the north side of the main service road; the stratigraphy was similar to that described in the Phase 1 monitoring report (Excavations 1999, 261–2). It should be noted that the subcircular features, which were tentatively described as possible post-holes in the initial report, are undoubtedly naturally occurring features. These were encountered when a portion of the boulder clay was exposed during topsoil-stripping for the main service road (Phase 1). However, subsequent excavations for house foundations (Phases 1 and 2) indicated that these features occurred across the entire site and represent pockets of subsoil in the pitted boulder clay. No archaeological material was discovered.
