Test excavation was carried out at the site of a proposed dwelling on 11 November, in response to a request for further information from Offaly County Council. The site lies c. 1km south-east of the archaeological complex at Croghan Hill and is within the area of constraint around the possible site of a standing stone. The stone stood c. 50m east of the proposed dwelling and, according to local information, now lies buried in the field in which it formerly stood. A second standing stone (SMR 10:14) lies c. 100m south-west of the site.
Four test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of the proposed development. The topsoil, 0.7m thick, directly overlay bedrock and natural sand and gravel deposits. No archaeological material was discovered.
