Testing was undertaken at Gortnana townland, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan, on 17 April 2000 to determine the impact of a proposed dwelling-house on any archaeological remains present on the site before the granting of planning permission.
One trial-trench was opened using a mechanical digger. It measured 20m east–west x 2m. The stratigraphy consisted of mid-brown topsoil immediately above a yellow, natural deposit. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered.
