This site was tested by Kieran Campbell in June 1997, and an archaeological deposit was encountered ‘at depths of 1.25m to 1.4m within 5m of the lane at the north end of the site’ (Excavations 1997, 136–7). It was subsequently recommended that excavations in this area should be monitored to ensure that archaeological material was not disturbed by the proposed development.
Monitoring of excavations for two small apartment blocks was carried out on 29 and 30 May 2000. Groundworks comprised the excavation of numerous strip foundation trenches. The trenches were 1–1.25m wide and had a maximum depth of 0.95m. The archaeological deposit was not encountered.
