The proposed development involving the construction of a dwelling-house was located within a large earthwork that surrounds the town of Shrule. This may have been associated with the 16th-century castle in Shrule town or with the earlier church built in the 13th century. It was recommended that pre-development testing in the form of trial-trenches be carried out.
Four trenches were excavated, revealing a layer of subsoil over natural gravel. The stratigraphy revealed indicated no evidence of features/deposits or artefacts of archaeological significance.
