2000:0736 - SHANAGHMOYLE, Mayo

Testing for archaeological remains was undertaken on the route of the Knock–Claremorris Bypass where it passed within 5m of a ringfort, SMR 81:26. Five trenches were excavated by hand. Trenches 1 and 3 measured 1.5m by 5m. Trench 2 measured 3m by 6m. Trench 4 measured 2m by 3m. Trench 5 measured 1.5m by 4m. All the trenches were excavated to undisturbed subsoil. Subsequent to the excavation of the trenches a mechanical digger was used to remove the topsoil from the remainder of the area beside the ringfort. No finds, features or deposits of archaeological significance were present.
