Testing was undertaken on the route of the KnockâClaremorris Bypass adjacent to a possible fulacht fiadh. The possible site is positioned off the line of the development.
The test area measured 60m by 30m. A mechanical digger was used to strip the test area of sod and topsoil.
A cut into the subsoil that measured 0.9m in diameter by 0.5m in depth was uncovered. This feature was investigated by hand. Upcast material was deposited at the northern edge of the cut. The cut was filled with peat. There were no burnt inclusions.
No other features, finds or deposits of archaeological potential were present.
