Testing was undertaken on the route of the Knock–Claremorris Bypass at the site of possible standing stones that had been removed by agricultural land clearance before testing. The test area measured 110m in length by 20–30m in width. A mechanical digger was used to strip the area of sod and topsoil. Features of archaeological potential were investigated by hand.
Two natural stone sockets were identified as being part of a scatter of boulders distributed across the western part of the test area. These sockets may have held the stones that were originally identified as possible standing stones.
A subrectangular charcoal-filled cut in the subsoil was identified. The feature measured 1.8m by 0.8m and was 0.2m deep. The clay that formed the edge of the feature was fire-reddened. Samples were retained for specialist analysis.
