Field-walking for the Knock–Claremorris Bypass revealed three low limestone boulders aligned on a small, grassy mound and referred to locally as the ‘Chieftains’ Burial Ground.’
A short test excavation was carried out on the feature to determine its archaeological implication. The hand-testing established that the mound and associated limestone boulders had been created by land clearance. The only feature of archaeological significance was a cortical flake of waste chert, considered to be a stray find.
