Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out between 5 May and 6 June 2000 on the 7km-long route of the Northern Motorway from the River Boyne northwards to the existing Dunleer Bypass at Monasterboice. Further monitoring took place to the end of August on topsoil removal on the realignments of the N1, N51 and R168 link roads. Twenty-four potential archaeological sites were uncovered and are reported on by the writer, Thaddeus Breen, Robert Chapple, Carmel Duffy and Cóilín Ó Drisceoil in this volume (Excavations 2000, Nos 715–19).
