Monitoring was undertaken during topsoil-stripping and groundworks associated with the extension and development of The Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth. This development was being carried out in proximity to an unrecorded but possible archaeological monument, known as the ‘Crookshee’. The Crookshee consists of a tall earthen mound measuring 29m x 31m and is surrounded by a ring of trees. The monitoring revealed that the sod and topsoil extended to an average depth of 0.23m and directly overlay grey boulder clay. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered.
