Monitoring of drainage works in Lagavooren townland uncovered traces of archaeological deposits. A rescue excavation was carried out from 1 to 2 August 2000, and two subsoil-cut pits with an associated metalled surface were found. No in situ finds or dating evidence were recovered from the pits. However, a barbed and tanged arrowhead and a sherd of blackware were found on the surface beside the pits.
In the same townland, but not associated with the pits, a number of disarticulated human bones were found. These bones represented the remains of a female in her twenties. The lack of associated finds precluded a date for the bones. It is hoped that an AMS date on the bones will shed some light on their origin.
