Monitoring of topsoil removal was required on this site prior to a proposed development. The site lies within the historic town of Carlingford at Back Lane. The site was approximately 60m north–south at its widest, tapering to 48m wide towards the eastern area of the site. A steep slope was recorded from west to east across the development area. Topsoil removal was carried out using a mechanical digger fitted with a toothless bucket. Topsoil was found to directly overlie subsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
