The site was found by Kieran Campbell during monitoring of the digging of drainage gullies at the sides of the Northern Motorway/Dunleer–Dundallk Bypass. The drain was dug through the archaeological deposits, and, as no further disturbance was to take place, the site was only recorded in section.

A mid-grey/brown deposit of burnt stones, ash and charcoal, 3.5m x 0.2m, covered a 1.5m x 0.25m-deep cut. This contained dark blackish-brown, sandy clay, frequent burnt stones and large concentrations of charcoal. Burnt bone and a fragment of heat-shattered quartz were also found. This may be interpreted as a hearth, though given the recording method it is difficult to be certain of this. Radiocarbon dates are awaited.
