Groundworks for the construction of a dispensary at the northern end of the town were monitored in February 2000. The area was along the southern side of a site developed by Golden Vale the previous year, monitored by the writer (Excavations 1998, 127, 99E0585). The ground was steeply outcropping limestone, which had to be quarried down to the level for the floor of the building. No features of archaeological origin were noted. At the southern end of the site, where the rock had been quarried early in the 19th century, part of the masonry of a rectangular yard marked on the first edition OS map of 1844 was exposed.
