During the monitoring of the Piltown–Fiddown Road Improvement Scheme on the N24 Waterford to Limerick road in south County Kilkenny, two sites were identified for which excavation licences were sought, after charcoal samples were dated to establish the archaeological authenticity of the sites (see Excavations 2000, No. 514, Ardclone, and Excavations 2000, No. 555, Piltown).
The road is not yet completed, and there is still some soil-stripping to be done, which will be monitored under the existing licence.
