Archaeological testing commenced at the Captain’s Inn public house, Main Street, Leixlip, on 6 November 2000. The purpose of the testing programme was to determine the level of impact that the proposed extension may have on any potential archaeological remains, given that the site is located in the village of Leixlip.
The deposits encountered reflect that the previous buildings were built almost directly onto the natural deposits, thus removing any evidence for previous buildings or archaeological deposits on the site. There was no evidence of any archaeological material within the area tested.
