Testing was undertaken, as part of an archaeological assessment of a proposed development, on 16 November 2000. The site is located within the designated area of archaeological potential of Ballymore Eustace. Located c. 70m to the west/north-west of the site is Close Hill, the speculated location of a castle.
No features, deposits or structures of archaeological potential were uncovered during the course of this work. However, twenty sherds of pottery, all of which appear to be of medieval date, were recovered. Given the likelihood that further pottery sherds exist buried within the confines of the development site, it was suggested that a monitoring clause be included in the grant of planning, if the development is allowed to proceed.
