Excavation was undertaken over a four-week period in June–July 2000. The remains of another, very large, early medieval, stone round house with a souterrain were uncovered about 100m west of the settlement that was excavated from 1997 to 1999 (Excavations 1997, 81–2, Excavations 1998, 89, and Excavations 1999, 110–11). The round house was replaced by a subrectangular, bow-sided building. The walls of the latter consisted of regularly spaced large posts. The shape and construction of the house suggest that it is of Scandinavian origin. It was in turn overlain by the truncated remains of a medieval, rectangular, stone-walled house. 14C dates are awaited.
