The development of a wind farm at Beal Hill, Ballybunion, involved the monitoring of the excavation of foundations for a number of turbine and crane bases, a substation building, and topsoil removal along the line of a number of access roads. The monitoring was carried out over a three-day period in May 2000. There are no Recorded Monuments within the farm property, and the nearest archaeological site is a ringfort (RMP 1:18) located c. 300m from the western property boundary.
All of the area affected by this development was stripped by machine to the level of the undisturbed, natural boulder clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the monitoring of the groundworks.
