This phase of construction of the Ballycarty to Killally road was concentrated on the area between the townlands of Ballymacthomas and Ballyegan. The area of the road-take was c. 30m. The topsoil was generally a light brown silt, becoming more peaty in content as the road progresses south-eastwards, from which numerous sherds of modern pottery and glass were recovered. Several land drains were uncovered during this phase of construction and proved to be of modern date. No features of archaeological merit were uncovered during this phase of road construction.
