Extensions to original licences were obtained for an extensive area of excavation (see Excavations 1999, 107–8, for earlier reports). Primary features uncovered included five stone-lined burnt areas containing some bone (report forthcoming) and some heavily baked clay and charcoal fragments (dating from the 9th–12th centuries). Considerable areas of the subsurface clay and daub displayed evidence of having been heavily baked.
In contrast to the dating available from the charcoal, the excavation produced a vast array of Late Neolithic–Early Bronze Age lithics, including arrowheads, scrapers and fragments of axeheads. It is planned to submit a full report in Excavations 2001.
