This work, carried out on 27 May 2000, involved the test excavation of a site in advance of development, at Doogarraun townland, Co. Galway. The site was partially located immediately north of and within the constraint of a recorded monument (RMR 105:79), a ringfort. The development consisted of the construction of a dwelling-house with associated septic tank and percolation area.

Three trial-trenches were excavated by machine. Trench A measured 15.1m x 0.9–1.3m and was 0.35–0.9m deep. Trench B measured 20.4m x 0.8–1.3m and was 0.45–0.75m deep. Trench C measured 9.6m x 0.9–1.3m and was 0.35–0.65m deep. The nearest excavation to the monument was the east-south-east end of Trench C, 9–10m away.

The stratigraphy in all three trenches consisted of topsoil (0.1–0.35m thick), below which was orange/brown natural and bedrock. The bedrock was located as high as 0.1m below the surface.

No artefacts were recovered from the testing. The testing revealed natural, undisturbed stratigraphy with nothing of archaeological significance.
