The proposed development involves the construction of a dwelling-house and percolation area at Ballynastaig, Co. Galway. A late 19th/early 20th-century stone cottage survives in the west of the site but will not be affected by the development. Immediately north-east of the site boundary wall the remains of an enclosure and souterrain (SMR 103:47) are recorded. Owing to field clearance over the years, this site has been completely destroyed.
Four trenches were mechanically excavated. The layers present consisted of sod and topsoil overlying the natural. No structural remains or anything of archaeological significance was evident.
