Archaeological investigations were carried out at Newtown Corduff, Co. Dublin, prior to the construction of the Northern Motorway/Airport– Balbriggan bypass. The site, initially identified in the environmental impact study as Site 15 (Keeley 1994), was described as a series of small fields with agricultural features and meditation gardens noted during a field inspection of the route and also recorded in local tradition. This assessment report and later borehole monitoring by Hilary Opie recommended that archaeological investigations should be conducted to ascertain the nature and extent of the potential site (Keeley 1998). The site is to be directly affected by the motorway construction.

When originally inspected the ground was under grass. The location of the investigated site was ascertained by identifying the highest and most curved ridge in the affected area. The trenches were located on the top and the northern and southern side of the possible feature. A separate trench was located in an adjacent field. During the investigation five trenches, all 4m x 2m, were opened.

No features of archaeological significance were identified during the archaeological testing, although the foundation wall of a cottage was identified. This cottage was marked on the 1836 OS map of the area.
