Monitoring of earthworks associated with the flood-water relief scheme at Mayne Bridge, Maynetown, is ongoing. Monitoring was required on foot of an archaeological assessment of the site, undertaken in January 2000.
The desk study included the consultation, in the Archaeological Maritime Survey Section of Dúchas The Heritage Service, of the list of recorded shipwrecks from the area. In total twenty shipwrecks were listed as coming from the vicinity of the proposed development, and a further 57 were recorded from the area around Howth. Nothing of archaeological interest has been recorded to date (February 2001).
