The assessment was carried out prior to the redevelopment of the site for office and retail purposes. It was to be built on a 32-pile foundation. One trench extending north–south and measuring 29m x 1m was excavated through the centre of the footprint of the development. There was no evidence for any archaeological features within the trench. The stratigraphy was uniform, consisting of rubble remains lying on natural gravel. The rubble infill comprised red brick, mortar, ceramic pipe, plastic piping and other modern inclusions.
