The site of a former truck depot, adjacent to a site tested in Digges Lane (see Excavations 2000, No. 258), was also the subject of a planning application by the Salvation Army. Nóra Bermingham monitored a Dublin Corporation road-widening scheme along the southern frontage of the site earlier in 2000 (see Excavations 2000, No. 270).
Two test-trenches were opened across this site, which was in use as a carpark. The first, opened along the western boundary of the site, was 16m long and exposed traces of the deposit of garden soil noted on a series of sites around Digges Lane.
The second, opened in the centre of the site, was 4m long and revealed post-medieval and early modern rubbish at 0.5m from the surface. This material was present to a depth of 2m.
Further excavation undertaken in 2001 will be reported on in Excavations 2001.
