Monitoring of ground reduction work took place at the corner of Kevin Street Upper and Bride Street New, Dublin, to facilitate the construction of an elevator shaft (Lift Tower One). The work was carried out on 15 June 2000. Planning permission was granted for the addition of a mansard roof to the existing structure, comprising 53 flats and two lift shafts.
The foundations for the lift tower were dug to 2.5m below the level of the footpath. A 1m layer of modern material, consisting of concrete blocks, red bricks, stones and other construction rubble, was removed, exposing the old ground surface. This was archaeologically sterile and was reduced by a depth of 1.5m to achieve the depth required for the foundations of the lift tower. No archaeological features or artefacts were discovered or disturbed.
