Two trenches were opened in a complex of buildings fronting onto the western side of Digges Lane as part of an archaeological assessment requested for the site. Formerly, the Digges Lane Dance Studio and Cassidy’s bakery had occupied portions of the site. Given the extent of standing remains within the complex, one trench was opened in the interior and one opened in a narrow alley located along the southern limits of the site.

The trench inside the buildings was orientated roughly east–west and was excavated through two reinforced concrete floors and a third flooring of granite flagstones. It revealed a substantial deposit of garden soils located across a large portion of the trench. These soils had been identified previously by Alan Hayden, Eoin Halpin and Cia McConway in excavations on the opposite side of Digges Lane. The trench opened along the southern boundary of the site revealed similar deposits, suggesting that some medieval and late medieval soils were present on the site. Further investigations will be required prior to any development of the site.
