Test excavation was undertaken on a small development site at 2–3 the Coombe, Dublin 8, on 26 April 2000. A single trench was excavated by machine. No archaeological deposits are present on the site. A deep escarpment on the north side of the site, along the northern boundary, may be responsible for the removal of all earlier deposits, probably in the 18th century. The licence was extended to cover the development at 4–7 the Coombe (adjacent). The results mirrored those from the first test excavation, with negative results.
