A test excavation was conducted here between 20 December 2000 and 16 January 2001, in advance of any planning stipulations. The site is on the north side of Camden Row (OD 24m) and within the archaeological zone of medieval Dublin. St Kevin’s Church and graveyard (SMR 18:02078) are located 40m north of the site. The church is noted as being north of Camden Row and west of Camden Lane South. By 16 January, Trenches 1 and 2 had been excavated. Trenches 3–5 were unexcavated at the time of transference of the licence.
It had originally been intended that there would be three trenches, but the warehouse interfered with this plan, as it would undermine the structural integrity of the building. Tests revealed a mixture of rubble and red brick and some 19th-century pottery. The rubble layer post-dates 1820 and very probably is demolition debris belonging to this phase of the site. No archaeological features or artefacts were encountered.
