Vague and not very well-defined cropmarks were noted at this site from aerial photographs. The possible location of the features was on the top of and at the southern base of a north–south-aligned hill. The field had been under tillage when originally inspected but at the time of the investigation was covered by scrub, and it was not possible to identify any features above ground.
Four hand-dug cuttings were opened. Cuttings 1 and 2 were sited on the top of the hill, and Cuttings 3 and 4 at its southern base. All measured 4m x 2m. Nothing of archaeological significance was found in any of them.
Editor’s note: The summary of this excavation, which was carried out during 1999, arrived too late for publication in the bulletin of that year.
