Monitoring was undertaken at the above site on behalf of Portstone Inns Ltd. Monitoring was recommended as a result of the part-demolition of the existing structure. The archaeological monitoring of construction was carried out intermittently over five months, commencing March 2000.
The stratigraphy revealed was consistent throughout, displaying a stratum of mid-brown, disturbed clay with little or no organic content; this overlay layers of gravel and sand, which sloped down to the northern banks of the River Liffey. No features, artefacts or deposits of archaeological significance were identified.
