Testing was conducted on the site of the proposed development of a detached dwelling-house, septic tank and driveway in the townland of Drumbarity, Co. Donegal, approximately 1km north-west of Killybegs. The proposed development involved the excavation of a 4m-wide strip for the construction of a driveway and further excavations for the dwelling-house foundation and septic tank.
Testing was carried out on 15 April 2000. Using a wide, toothless trenching bucket, five test-trenches were excavated. The bedrock and natural, brown/ grey, gravelly subsoil were sealed by a series of deposits of sandy silts, gravels and clays. These strata in turn underlay sod and topsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
