This site was exposed during the topsoil removal along the planned route of the gas pipeline extension from Ballincollig to Ballineen. This site was located to the south of a stream and east of a field drain. It lies on level ground in a natural valley with land sloping to it from north and south. The site is located at approximately 94m OD (Malin Head).
The site was aligned east–west with a rather irregular outline. The dimensions of the spread were 4.8m east–west by 2.75m. The spread of characteristic fulacht fiadh material was 0.23m in depth over the whole feature. While the site had been exposed during the stripping, this process had little impact on the surface remains. The nature of the site suggests that the main damage to the site came about through ploughing and extensive drainage work in its immediate vicinity. The topsoil-stripping exposed the full extent of the monument.
The burnt material, when viewed in plan, shows a well-defined, subrectangular opening to the north. This opening faces towards the stream, is 1.2m across the ‘horns’, and extends into the spread for 1.6m. This feature would give the fulacht fiadh a classic horseshoe/kidney shape. Unfortunately, no evidence of a trough was identified.
