This site was uncovered during topsoil-stripping on the Ballincollig–Ballineen Pipeline; it was represented by a series of cut features in thick, grey clay. The features were linear in form but truncated, making the visible remains obscure. The aim of the excavation was to determine their antiquity, to establish what purpose they served and to recover any archaeological data prior to development. After the area was cleared and the extent and form of the site made clear, selective excavation began by hand, owing to the truncated nature of the features and deposits.

At the time of stripping, the weather was quite dry, but the nature of the soil made the features exposed difficult to interpret. The grey clay was so light that it emphasised the features when they were exposed. The clay smeared when the machine was driven across the land during the stripping process.

Two areas were chosen and cleared. At first, the features appeared to be linear, but when sectioned they were shown to be quite shallow. The fill produced 19th- and 20th-century glazed ware and a modern ploughshare.

Excavation showed that the features exposed were indeed ploughmarks of recent origin, most likely belonging to the 20th century. While it is interesting to note the presence of such features, they are of no real archaeological significance.
