The site is located on the south of the church and graveyard, within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town of Inishannon. One test-trench was opened to a depth of 1m on the site on 29 March 2000. It ran east–west along the long axis of the site, parallel to and c. 3m outside the graveyard wall. No archaeological finds or levels were noted.
A further seven north–south-running trenches were opened on 11 July 2000 at the request of Dúchas The Heritage Service. These trenches varied in depth from 1.2m to 1.6m. No archaeological levels, finds or features were noted in any of the trenches. Cobbling was noted in each trench along the quayside to a width of c. 1.6m in from the quay.
