Testing took place on a proposed development site at Main Street, Quin, Co. Clare. The site, to the south of Quin Friary, comprised an irregularly shaped, though broadly rectangular, field measuring a maximum of 250m north–south by 100m.
Pre-development testing consisted of mechanically excavating two trenches, one running east–west parallel to the main road, the other running at right angles through the centre of the site. Throughout the course of the testing and the subsequent programme of topsoil-stripping, no material of archaeological significance was found.
Editor’s note: The summary of this excavation, which was carried out during 1999, arrived too late for publication in the bulletin of that year.
