An archaeological impact assessment in conjunction with testing was requested for this site in advance of a grant of planning permission, because of its location near the site of a destroyed bivallate ringfort, which contained a souterrain and hut site (Michael Connolly, pers. comm.).
Three interconnecting trenches were excavated at the point of closest proximity to the site of the ringfort. Trench 1 was 25m long, 2m wide and 0.56m deep. Trench 2 was 22m long, 1.5m wide and 0.84m deep. Trench 3 was 16m long, 1.5m wide and 0.8m deep. No artefacts or stratigraphy of an archaeological nature were identified.
