This project concerned the monitoring of groundworks on a proposed links-style golf-course and practice range at Doonbeg, Co. Clare. The site of the development comprises a coastal area of c. 153ha of sand dunes and low-lying ground in Carrowmore North, Carrowmore South and Cloonmore townlands. Only one site of archaeological significance, a rath, is listed in the County Clare RMP as being within the development area. The site is located adjacent to the site of a proposed new roadway linking the N27 to the proposed hotel and leisure complex.
Monitoring of the development work revealed no archaeological finds, features or deposits of any significance.
