The developer was requested by Cavan County Council to carry out an archaeological assessment of his development site. A ‘Fort’ (SMR 16:55) was marked on the first edition OS map, and ‘fort, site of’ on the 1876 edition, at a site 300–400m north of the proposed bungalow.
The development site was occupied by an Ancient Order of Hibernians hall, built in 1915 and demolished in 1999. This was a wooden and galvanised structure. Test-trenches here exposed the stone and clay footings. Other trenches tested the locations of the boundary wall, septic tank and percolation area. Nothing of archaeological significance was observed.
