Monitoring of five shell and auger boreholes and of the excavation of four engineering test-pits took place on a site at Paul Quay/Crescent Quay, Wexford. The site is subject to a planning application for development to Wexford Corporation.
No archaeological deposits were recorded during this monitoring; however, it became evident that there was a high water-table and a high degree of oil/fuel contamination of the site. It was recommended that any future archaeological investigations on the site take into account the problems that the high water-table and the heavy oil contamination will pose in the identification and recording of archaeological deposits and features.
