The proposed development was a continuation of site works that commenced in January of 1996 at No. 13 The Faythe, in the townland of Townparks, Wexford. As The Faythe is within the zone of archaeological importance for the town of Wexford, the site was tested under licence in accordance with the planning directive. In 1996 a total of sixteen pits were opened, which revealed no indications of archaeological material within the area designated for the new buildings.
The street frontage was unavailable for testing in 1996 because of the presence of standing buildings. Consequently, in January 1999, an extension to the licence was obtained to monitor the excavation of service trenches. In addition to the service trenches, the excavation of foundation trenches for a boundary wall constructed at the western extent of the site was monitored.
Monitoring of the service and construction trenches revealed a naturally deposited sand horizon overlain by modern infill. There were no indications of archaeologically significant material.
