The site of the development, a housing scheme, is just to the north-west of the centre of Cashel town. It is immediately outside the north-western stretch of the town wall, which extends for a length of 86m along the east side of the site and survives to a height of 5–6m above ground level. The development did not directly impinge on the town wall as it was 8m away from its line.
Nothing of major archaeological significance was uncovered during monitoring of the digging of strip foundations for the development. The findings confirmed that there was no medieval activity in this area of Cashel outside the walled town. It would appear that the area was a vacant lot abutting the town wall and was probably used as common ground, with no settlement or any other activity because of its closeness to the defensive medieval wall.
