An assessment at the site of a proposed dwelling in Lissaraw townland, Co. Monaghan, was carried out on 21 December 1999. The site is 2km south of Monaghan town and 150m north of a ringfort.
Two assessment trenches were excavated across the front and rear foundation lines of the proposed dwelling, and a third was excavated across the proposed location of an associated septic tank north-west of the site of the proposed dwelling.

Dark brown topsoil on average 0.25m deep overlay mottled, orange/grey limestone boulder clay. A single stone-filled field drain, 0.46m wide, ran diagonally (south-west/north-east) through the eastern section of the trench.
