The site had been selected for investigation during an earlier assessment, by Valerie J. Keeley, of the proposed realignment and widening of the R161 Trim–Navan road by Meath County Council from Bective to Balreask, carried out during February 1999.
It appeared as a small basin, 50m east-west by 40m, with a number of low, curved bank features.
Five trenches, 10m x 2m, were opened by machine. The general soil profile was sod and topsoil, red/brown clay and grey gravel.
None of the trenches contained any archaeological material.
