Pre-development testing was undertaken on the site of a proposed development in Shrule, Co. Mayo. The development is inside the zone of archaeological importance for a church (SMR 122a:4) and an earthwork (SMR122a:16). Eleven test-trenches were excavated by machine within the proposed development.

The trenches varied in length from 11m to 20m, and all were 2m wide. In general, the stratigraphy consisted of topsoil overlying natural gravels or boulder clay. No archaeological features or small finds were recovered from any of the trenches.
